All of the members of the group are from the Bronx, New York. They all lived near Belmont Avenue, which is why "Dion & the Belmonts" became their name. "I Wonder Why" was their first record in 1958, and it became a success! The group began appearing on American Bandstand and they soon released another popular record "No One Knows." They also began touring with artists such as Bobby Darin and Buddy Holly.
In 1959, they released "A Teenager In Love," "That's My Desire," and "Where or When." These records also became very successful. In 1960, Dion left the group and began a solo career, releasing popular records like "Runaround Sue" and "The Wanderer."
Dion & the Belmonts are one of my favorite groups of this era! I most enjoy the songs "A Teenager In Love," "Every Little Thing I Do," and their version of "When You Wish Upon A Star." My favorite Dion songs are definitely "Heaven Help Me," "Can't We Be Sweethearts," and "Donna the Prima Donna."
